Stots.com and CathedralCafe.com are also getting some attention by Godaddy bidders. My other favorites are EducationDay.com, Reside...

DomainShane.com: So what did you do with your free day yesterday?  Me, I did the same damn thing I do every day, work.  But I enjoy working.  I was talking with an employee about how I wish the day didn’t go by so fast so I could get more done.  He looked dumbfounded. Couldn’t quite grasp the concept of the more you get done in a day the ...

An easy way to register domains for $2 each

How to register domains for $2.00 at big name registrars.

I know a lot of readers are always on the lookout for domain coupons and special offers.

So I’m going to tell you a way to register domain names for as little as $2 each.

And I’m not suggesting using some no-name registrar. We’re talking GoDaddy, Network Solutions, and Register.com.

What’s the magic trick? Just Google “domain name”.

Seriously.

Registrars know that people who search for “domain name” are likely to be new domain registrant who haven’t found a favorite registrar yet. So they’re willing to take a loss to get your business.

You’ll see offers like this:

Not bad. I even saw a Google ad for Register.com offering domains for $2.00. It appears that Network Solutions is split testing its offer; sometimes when I search it’s $2.50 and others it’s $2.95.

The catch? Well, there’s a limit of three domains per person on each of these offers. Other than that there’s not a catch. The domain registrars want a typical customer who will end up paying them for whois privacy, web hosting, etc., and then renew at full price in a year.

But you’re not a typical customer. So you can take advantage of it.

Two trademarks issued yesterday.

Right of the DotRight of the Dot, the new top level domain advisory company founded by Monte Cahn and Michael Berkens, has been granted two trademarks related to its brand.

Both trademarks, registrations number 4,104,592 and 4,104,593, were registered by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on February 28. The first is for the brand “Right of the Dot” and the second is for the company’s logo.

Right of the Dot is unique in the field of new top level domain consultants. It focuses on helping new TLD backers go to market. Given the founders’ history in the domain name industry (Cahn founded Moniker, Berkens owns a large portfolio of domains and blogs at TheDomains.com, they should be able to bring rich industry experience and domain investor connections to the table.

Fantasy Island returns home to Columbia Pictures

February 29, 2012Domaining, Domainnamewire, Policy & LawComments Off

Colombia Pictures wins dispute over domain name.

“The domain! The domain!”

Fantasy Island has been returned to Columbia Pictures — in cyberspace, that is.

The company just won a domain name dispute for FantasyIsland.com.

You can’t blame the company for not registering FantasyIsland.com when the show first aired in the 70s. Although you can question why it waited until now to file this complaint.

One possibility: there’s talk of a reality TV show in the works based on the Fantasy Island concept.

The owner of the domain didn’t respond to the complaint. The web address resolves to a parking page with links to “Fantasy Island”, “Bewitched”, and “Starsky Hutch”.
