Overstock.com Continues O.tld Purchases with O.info

O.info latest domain name acquisition by online retailer.

Overstock.com has acquired O.info from domain name registry Afilias, adding to its collection of o.tld names.

The company has gone all in with O.co, and in fact its press release announcing O.info is titled “O.co (aka Overstock.com) Acquires O.info Domain for New Consumer Portal”. It’s clear that the company is moving forward with its rebranding efforts.

It previously picked up O.biz for use as a b2b site.

O.co will use O.info as a “new consumer information website”, if that’s not generic enough for you.

Of course the company ultimately wants to get O.com, but single letter domains are still forbidden in .com.

O, .Co! Overstock.com Goes with O.co Coliseum

June 6, 2011Domaining, Domainnamewire, o.co, o.co coliseum, overstock.com, UncategorizedComments Off on O, .Co! Overstock.com Goes with O.co Coliseum

Big Stadium gets a .Co brand.

O.co ColiseumWhen the .co registry announced last week that it had broken through the one million domains registered barrier, Overstock.com (NASDAQ: OSTK) said it had another big .co related announcement on tap for today.

And here it is: the company will name the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (where the Oakland Raiders and Oakland Athletics play) the O.co Coliseum.

The company bought six year naming rights in April. Big props to Elliot Silver for being the first (I believe) to suggest that these naming rights could involve .co.

While the press release announcing the O.co naming still refers to O.co as merely a shortcut, it appears to be much more than that. In an AdAge article, company executives say they are gradually changing the name of the company to O.co. They liken the process to Kentucky Fried Chicken changing to KFC. The company also points out that O.co is great for international business because Overstock is sometimes hard to translate.

Another big win for the .Co marketing team.
