DirectNIC and United Domains now fully integrated with SedoMLS Premium

Customers can list their domains on SedoMLS at Premium level.

Sedo has announced that domain name registrars DirectNIC and United Domains are now fully integrated with SedoMLS at the Premium level. This means that customers of these domain registrars can add their domains to SedoMLS’ instant transfer system and also purchase domains directly through the registrar.

Both registrars were previously integrated with SedoMLS but only on the purchasing end; customers could not list their domains with SedoMLS Premium.

In terms of .com registrations, DirectNIC was the 24th largest domain name registrar at the end of September. United Domains was the 54th largest.

SedoMLS Premium is similar to AfternicDLS Premium. Registrants at participating registrars can list their domains for sale and take advantage of instant transfer technology. That means customers at any participating registrar can buy the domains in their shopping cart and immediately get control of them.

For example, last week I sold a domain name through Afternic that was registered at Moniker but purchased by someone at Network Solutions. The transfer occurred instantaneously without any involvement from me.

From a registrar perspective, the Sedo program differs by allowing registrars to add their own mark up to the price.

United Domains gets Punk’d

Members of ICANN community and competing domain registrars find themselves as new United Domains account holders.

United DomainsSomeone is having a laugh at United Domains’ expense.

Over the past few days an unknown perpetrator has set up roughly 500 empty accounts at domain name registrar United Domains using email addresses of people active in ICANN’s Governmental Advisory Committee and at various competing domain name registrars. Each of these people received a welcome email from the registrar.

The company sent an email this morning to people who had their email address used to set up an account.

According to Kate Hutchinson, Marketing Manager for United Domains, the perpetrator does not appear to have had sinister plans.

“Someone thought it would be fun,” she said. It does not appear to be related to identity theft and all of the email addresses that were used are easily found online.

The slogan at the top of United Domains’ web site reads “Domain Name Registration made simple!”. Part of that simplicity is that anyone can create an account easily. Perhaps too easily.

“We are making some changes to how you can create an account that will require a higher level of accountability,” Hutchinson said.
